Education Alternatives (EA) is looking for a passionate and caring Student Support Specialist to join its Springfield education team.
EA is a leading provider of special education services in Northeast Ohio. EA focuses on providing behavioral and education programming for students with special learning and emotional needs. EA has 8 locations serving over 400 special education students.
This position is responsible for working with an individual student in the classroom. The Student Support Specialist will assist the student in areas of behavior management and will help the student with instructional support, daily living activities, and social skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist an individual student in the areas of behavior management instructional support, activities of daily living, social skills training, task redirection.
- Design, implement, and track progress of interventions for academic and behavioral goals
- Assess student progress through tests, projects, observations, and/or portfolios
- Reward and encourage student in accordance with the agency’s policy of unconditional positive regard
- Incorporate agency trainings in Therapeutic Crisis Interventions and Life Space Crisis Interventions
- Mediate, counsel, and instruct socially appropriate alternative to negative and destructive behaviors
- Assist in the development of behavioral IEP goals for assigned student
- Complete incident reporting in a timely manner and according to agency policy
- Advocate for and coordinate required services or resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information and records
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures including CARF
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree in education, Psychology, Sociology or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred
- Paraprofessional License preferred
- Prior experience working with clients with emotional and/or behavioral needs is preferred
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment
- High-quality written and verbal skills
Job Schedule and Working Conditions
- The job follows a standard school schedule for a total of 187 workdays in a year
- The standard workday is from 8:00 to 3:30
- Ability to perform physical restraints according to the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques
- Work is performed primarily in the school environment
